Front Page Blurb

Hyde Park Gym is a complete-minimalist gym, with space for weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman, bodybuilding, sports performance and general fitness.  We are known for our family atmosphere and diversity.  An Olympian working out next to a great-grandmother is the norm.   The gym is also known for “the Arm” – the gargantuan dumbbell-curling bicep that penetrates Guadalupe Street.  Helmed by iron game legend Mike Graham in the 80s and 90s, HPG is a funky piece of fast-disappearing Old Austin.

HPG caters to folks of all fitness levels and ages. We’re open every day of the year. Come by anytime – We’d love to show you around!

COVID-19 UPDATE

ACCEPTING YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT

The fitness industry is tough during normal times, chiefly due to the inherent limitations of the physical space.  And, in addition to being closed for 60 days, our traffic has decreased by half.  All while our fixed costs have remained at 100% and no grant money has materialized.   Our PPP and EIDL covered less than 2 months of operating costs.  If HPG is important you, and you are able, please consider supporting our community. Donate on PayPal here.

WE ARE OPEN

Masks will be required on March 10 and beyond.   It’s a simple thing to do and it’s proven to make indoor spaces safer.    We can hold out and make this sacrifice for a little while longer.   Also remember…. we’re moving into the nicest weather of the year.   Dumbbells, med balls, rowers, plyo boxes, squat stands…. can all be taken into the pen where you can lift mask-free.  We’ll even help you carry it out there.

TRAFFIC PATTERNS:  The slower times are 8 – 10am and 1:30 to 4:30pm during the week.   The weekend afternoons are also typically slow.  The busiest times are the weeknight evenings (5:30 to 7:15) and late Saturday mornings (10 to 1).  If you decide to show up at 6pm on a Tues you may have a short wait.   (This is all impossible to predict and you are welcome to call to get a real-time assessment.)

Doors and windows are often open allowing the frequent exchange of air.  But coming to a gym, a space with individuals engaged in heavy respiration, is risky.  Wearing a mask (along with avoiding crowds) may be one way to reduce the chance of transmission.  It must cover your mouth and nostrils.  It will be enforced to protect our members of all ages.

Hand washing upon entry is required.  Masks are required at all times (excluding taking a quick drink).  During the hours of 6am to Noon, Mon-Fri, total occupancy is capped at 28, or 275 square feet per person.  There are also individual room limits during these AM hours. Creating maximum distance is always mandated, and yelling and excessive talking is discouraged.  WE HAVE OUTDOOR AREAS AVAILABLE, and will happily help you transport equipment into the pen. This illness is respiratory in nature and may be transmitted when you breathe air from an infected person’s sneeze, cough, laughter, breath, etc.   Returning to the gym entails risk.  Whatever you decide, we honor you, appreciate you, and look forward to seeing you again… Whenever that may be.  LOVE, HPG (Mar 2)
